Three generations.
One promise.
Hegarty's Delivery Service has been moving New England's most time-critical freight since 1980 — founded by one man with a car and a phone, and run by his family ever since.
Built on trust, urgency, and one simple idea: treat every delivery like it matters — because it does.
In 1980, Anthony “Tony” Hegarty started HDS because he saw the need for a delivery company that could consistently provide a fast, efficient and personalised service — one judged on a single thing: whether the shipment arrives when it was promised. Forty-six years later, that hasn't changed. What has changed is the scale: a single vehicle became a fleet of cars, SUVs, cargo vans and 26-foot box trucks, and a local courier run became same-day coverage across New England, New York and New Jersey, with LTL freight moving nationwide.
Through all of it, HDS has stayed family-owned and family-run. Three generations of Hegartys have answered the phone, driven the routes, and stood behind the work. When you reach us, you're not reaching a call centre — you're reaching the company itself.

Tony starts HDS
Anthony “Tony” Hegarty starts Hegarty's Delivery Service because he sees the need for a delivery company that could consistently provide a fast, efficient and personal service. One man, one vehicle, and a promise that every delivery matters.
Michael joins — the second generation
Tony's son Michael Hegarty joins the business, driven by the urge to support his family and a vision to take HDS to the next level. The company keeps growing, and the standard Tony set travels with it.
Sean joins his brother
Tony's son Sean Hegarty joins Michael in the business — a second brother, another set of hands, and another dynamic layer to a company that was already family through and through. Two generations now working the same phones and the same routes, and HDS is stronger for it.
HDS expands into trucking
Adding trucks widens what HDS can carry for the customers it already has — and wins a lot of new ones. Suddenly a courier company can move a dozen pallets, and larger providers find themselves beaten at their own game.
Fully TSA certified
HDS becomes TSA certified, opening the door to secure air freight at Logan (BOS) — work most couriers in the region simply cannot take. The horizon widens again.
Connor joins — the third generation
Michael's son Connor Hegarty joins the company, marking three generations of a family deeply engrained in New England logistics — and more than 100 years of same-day experience between them.
Still growing, still family
HDS continues to expand on trusted experience, hard-won expertise, and treating every customer like the family it all started with.
